#CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME

On July 21, 2023, I had the opportunity to attend a capacity-building programme at the MTTC auditorium, where Dr. Pramod Dinakar, an assistant professor at the School of Ethics and Governance, delivered an insightful talk on "Life Skills." This session was not only informative but also deeply reflective, providing us with tools and perspectives that are crucial for both personal and professional growth.

Dr. Dinakar began by emphasizing the importance of life skills in today’s fast-paced world. He pointed out that while academic knowledge is essential, it is our life skills—such as communication, emotional intelligence, and problem-solving—that truly enable us to navigate the complexities of life. This struck a chord with me, as it highlighted a gap that often exists in traditional education systems, where such skills are not always given the attention they deserve.

Throughout the session, Dr. Dinakar engaged us with real-life examples and interactive discussions, making the topic relatable and easy to understand. One of the key takeaways for me was his explanation of emotional intelligence—how understanding and managing our emotions can lead to better decision-making and healthier relationships. He also delved into the importance of effective communication, not just in conveying messages but in actively listening and understanding others' perspectives.

The talk was not just theoretical; Dr. Dinakar provided practical strategies that we could implement in our daily lives. For instance, he introduced us to techniques for stress management and time management, which are crucial in maintaining a balanced life. These were particularly relevant to me, as I often struggle with juggling multiple responsibilities. His advice on prioritization and setting realistic goals was something I felt I could immediately apply to improve my productivity and well-being.

Another aspect that stood out was the discussion on ethical decision-making. Dr. Dinakar’s insights on how our values and principles should guide our choices were thought-provoking. In a world where we are constantly faced with ethical dilemmas, his talk reminded me of the importance of staying true to one’s values, even when it’s challenging.

The session concluded with a Q&A segment, where participants had the chance to ask questions and share their thoughts. The interaction was lively, and it was clear that Dr. Dinakar’s talk had resonated with many of us. The programme left me with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of the skills I need to cultivate in order to lead a fulfilling and successful life.

Reflecting on the experience, I realize how essential it is to continually build and refine our life skills. Dr. Dinakar’s session was a powerful reminder that while technical knowledge is important, it is our life skills that enable us to truly thrive. The insights I gained from this programme will undoubtedly stay with me, guiding me as I navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
